Makalei Estate Coffee is an estate grown and family owned coffee farm. It is located in upcountry Kona on Hawaii's Big Island close to Hawaii's beautiful nature and conveniently located near Kailua-Kona. Makalei Estate Coffee sits upon the gentle slopes of Hualalai in cool upcountry Kona. With an ideal elevation of 1,700 feet, it is far enough from the hot coastal plain below, but still close enough to the sea to catch ocean breezes.
Because of the ideal climate – sunny mornings, cloud covered afternoons and seasonal rainfall, Makalei Estate Coffee matures slowly and grows with an excellent grade. Our coffee cherries are carefully handpicked, pulped, dried , hulled and roasted with controlled temperature and humidity. Makalei Estate Coffee is delicious small batch roasts of the finest Kona coffee beans grown within the Kona coffee belt. We roast it before it gets delivered to you so freshness and quality are not compromised.
The origin of the Hawaiian word Makalei (“Maka-lei” pronounced as “mahkalay”) is a magic stick that has the ability to attract fish – a fish drawing stick. We envisioned Makalei as our coffee beans (the magic stick) that attract people (fish) to draw near to its powerful aroma, perfect taste and the rich history behind the worldwide renowned Kona coffee.
